Fascinating museum exhibits and explanations – immerse yourself in the social, economic, and political history of the Wendland region. Situated on the edge of the Welf dynasty's territory, the border region of Wendland was repeatedly involved in periods of upheaval and armed conflict throughout the centuries.
Since mid-2025, part of our historical collection has been housed in the museum complex between Johannisstraße and the Amtsturm (administrative tower), which was renovated according to historic
preservation principles. The Lüchow Tourist Information Office, operated by the
Wendland Regionalmarketing Association, is also located here.
The modern museum building is accessible to people with disabilities during the opening hours of the Lüchow Tourist Information Office. The exhibits are even accessible on Mondays – a rarity for
museums. The building complex, consisting of two half-timbered houses, spans two floors and its rooms cover the following themes: "Rule, Wars and their Consequences in the Border
Region", "Old Town – New Town", "German and Slavic Populations", "The Castle and its Inhabitants" and "Institutions and Norms
Instead of Conflicts".
